It has been devised to complement the daily needs of essential fatty acids of the omega-3 family and the included group of vitamins and minerals, both during the period prior to pregnancy in which conception is being sought, and during effective pregnancy, situations both in which the needs of these nutrients are increased.
Maternal intake of DHA contributes to the normal development of the eyes and brain of the fetus and infant fed with breast milk. The beneficial effect for pregnant or nursing women is obtained with a daily intake of 200mg of DHA, in addition to the recommended daily intake of DHA of 250mg for adults. Vitamin D contributes to the normal absorption / utilization of calcium and phosphorus, it also helps to maintain normal blood calcium levels, to the normal maintenance of bones, teeth and muscle function.
Supplemental intake of folic acid increases the status of maternal folate. The low level of maternal folate is a risk factor in the development of neural tube defects in the developing fetus.
