DHA is an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid involved in maintaining normal brain and eye function. This benefit is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and DHA contribute to maintaining normal heart function. This benefit is achieved with the daily intake of 250 mg of DHA and EPA. Maternal intake of DHA contributes to the normal development of the eyes and brain of nursing infants. The beneficial effect for breastfeeding women is achieved with a daily intake of 200 mg of DHA, in addition to the adult recommended daily amount of 250 mg of DHA.
